Training is not for griefing

In Response To: Re: My say... (Hawk7886)

: There was no penalty to any one of the players if they chose to quit. They
: wanted to stay and play.

: If you've played for any certain period of time you would notice that people
: do whatever they want in training games. That is exactly why they are
: there. Some play them seriously, others only goof around, betray, and/or
: quit randomly. It's up to you to choose what you want to do, and you have
: the freedom to leave if someone is doing something you don't like. You
: could even send them bad feedback if it would make you feel better.

Yes, that's what people in practice do. And as you also may have noticed, that doesn't suit everybody, either. I honestly don't believe Bungie views Training as being a no-holds-barred free-for-all. That's what Custom games are for. Training is supposed to be for players to play AS IF they were being ranked without the risk of losing rank-- for learning new maps, trying out new strategies, working out how to play as a team. For TRAINING. Not for "oh I can do whatever the heck I like because it's not ranked".

: If they did that in ranked games, well, that's different.

That's marginally worse. But it doesn't excuse griefing in training.

: I do agree that they did things that some could look at as mean-spirited, but
: the point is really to just play the game and have fun. Most of the
: 'pranks' they tried to do didn't last too long, anyway - they got blown up
: pretty quickly with that Warthog bit.

And how much fun is it for the other players?

: Look at it from the lighter side, and don't forget about that truckload of
: salt. ;)

Forget the lighter side-- look at it from the other side. We all think it's funny because we're identifying with Mere, and he made the movie.

How funny would it be if things were reversed? What would the reaction be if Mere had been on the other team, and this film had been presented not as "something completely different" but "wankers ruining our chances at team training"?

I don't think there was any "conspiracy" at all to get this film passed-- that's a bit silly. However, I do think that the proper venue for antics to set up films like this is Custom games-- NOT team training.
