In Response To: Re: MPPRS - Am I just in a bad mood? (Captain Spark)

: Hmmm, interesting! If Mere's buddies are part of the MPPRS reviewers then
: they shouldn't be.

Here's an interesting point that I don't recall having been addressed in the whole MPRRS impetus. As I understand the rules at the moment, anonymity and objectivity are supposed to be hallmarks of a system like this. Whether or not some of Mere's friends are on the reviewer list is somewhat immaterial; the fact that the reviewers were able to see who submitted that video may be a problem in and of itself.

Now, my above idea brings up a whole new set of problems. I think some may recall the controversy surrounding the video that passed the MPRRS because it was 95% made by Dan Chosich, just with some reworking of some of the scenes. Since that submitter put his name on "his" work, those familiar with Dan's films were able to note the plagiarism and deduct his points accordingly. Had this film been submitted anonymously, it would have been Louis who would more than likely have found that glaring flaw. Come to think of it, that's not terrible, but the point of the system was to pass a movie and submit it to Louis for hosting, not subsequent reviewing. Obviously he has veto power, but the preferred method is for the MPRRS to retain most of the power in this setup.

Long and short, I see only a couple options to alleviate this type of problem. First, perhaps the MPRRS should require that ending credits are not part of a submission and all movies will include a text version of credits that are "locked" until the movie has passed and is released to/by/through Louis. Second, and requiring more effort and analysis, comprise the MPRRS team with people who are demonstrably capable of objective video reviewing as well as an "out of sight, out of mind" attitude to resubmissions.

: Louis, it may not be a bad idea to reject videos submitted to the MPPRS
: system that show players that may be breaking the rules.

Quick response: this makes pretty good sense, but then we move into a seldom-travelled territory of actual censorship in the MPRRS. Whether this is morally/ethically/Constitutionally correct is open for debate on other forums by other debaters more philosophically minded than I. I don't know about everyone, but were I to see a video pass through that had music with questionable or offensive lyrics, lewd acts (Blue Goo was funny but borderline ;) ), filmed griefing (I haven't watched Mere's latest, but it sounds like it includes a wanton amount of this), or just general lack of taste or cleanliness, I would not be pleased to have wasted my time and Mythica's bandwidth on such a film. Again, we're talking very subjectively here, but a certain amount of content ground rules may make the difference between a griefing montage passing and failing.

Consider yourselves a bit more than two American cents richer.
