In Response To: The Grunts and their rebellion (Graeme) I think it is pretty obvious: the Grunts are the Forerunner. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty absurd; however not as much so as half the other theories out there. Here is what happened: the Forerunner build the Halos, etc. then the stuff on the Grunt homeplanet. Grunts do not exist yet. (You'll have to forgive me, I don't know the particulars of the books, having not read them, but I am a little reluctant to entirely accept them as canon anyways) The Forerunner fire los Halos, and some of them hide/hibernate in the relics on the Grunt world. They somehow turn into Grunts (I admit that is a huge gaping flaw in the argument, but oh well, I guess I just can't have everything). This would also go a way to explain why the grunts are supposedly turned into methane-breathing cowards by the Prophets, who survived in a similar way and know what the precious little Unggoy are capable of. It would also be seriously ironic if the Grunts, who rely on the Elites all of the time, turn out to be the effective masters of the galaxy, while the Elites are just another lesser race taking up space. Cortana probably already knows all of this. |
