Bear with me with : the messy maelstrom of ideas: Remember at the beginning of Two Betrayals, : how MC and GS meet up with Cortana at the Control Room? Well, after the : Chief inserts the Index into the panel, Cortana pops up with the Index... : in her hand?? how does that happen?! AI might be able to fuse concrete : matter with themselves. Who knows... but consider this: the flood : infection forms- they take over the bodies of anything they can wiggle : into, and tap into their nervous system. Right? Well, what if AI like : cortana could do that too? GS exemplifies this when he took the Index from : the Chief in the Library. If AI could portray this ability, and the flood : can achieve this skill, then what does that mean? The Forerunner could : very well do it. Im trying to lead into this point: Im trying to think of : a time when the Chief or Cortana notice something odd that shouldn't be. : Heres an example: in The Flood, there is one small detail that states that : Chief somehow is familiar with the mechanisms of the Holopanel to activate : the bridge. How could that be? Cortana uplinks herself to Covenant : data-streams, and she connects herself via Chief's Armor's Transponder : System. If she can connect herself to Covenant data, she can connect with : the Halo ring, perhaps. What if GS, covenant AI, or Forerunner uploaded : itself into Cortana, copied itself, then spread to the Chiefs brain, and : then multiplied? Cortana eventually recognises HERSELF on the Ascended : Justice, only it has been altered. Let me clarify a few things here. : 1. Chief knows how to use Halo because there are undetected traces of alien : AI in his brain. One big problem: The Chief knows how to use Forerunner tech before Cortana enters the Control Center. Also, the other Spartans, who aren't augmented for AI, know how to work Forerunner and Covenant tech, at least Fred and Kelly do. Also, the Flood do their thing by direct contact, and it's stated that Cortana can't control MJOLNIR, which also means she can't control the Chief.
