I was just reading through the old posts, and as I stumbled across this one, I was thinking along the same lines. If the seed pod theory is true (because the Halo universe uses the same development of human culture as ours), couldn't God be Forerunner? Couldn't God be *the* Forerunner who pushed the button to detonate halo? Wouldn't it be interesting if God said "let there be light," and that light burned out all sentient life in the galaxy? And if this Forerunner who was sitting at Halo's control room (let's call him 'Bob') then set in motion the mechanisms for replenishing the sentient species throughout the galaxy, wouldn't that make Bob our God? He certainly would be the creator of all life in this galaxy (even though he plagiarized the blueprints). But the possibility of Bob being our god gives rise some interesting situations...
The Covenant are on a holy war against humanity, calling our race 'an affront to the gods,' and it has been speculated that the Forerunner are their gods. Since Bob is a Forerunner, Bob's one of their gods. If Bob is a god of both our species, wouldn't that mean that the Covenant are waging a holy war against their own religion? Or is the relationship of Human (muslo-judeao-christian) religion to Covenant religion similar to the relationship of Islam to Christianity? Are the Covenant actions akin to a religiously fundamental terrorist?s? Are the two religions one in the same, or simply siblings? Either way, it places the Covenant's modus operandi in a serious quandary. Their attempts to wipe 'an affront to the gods' (according to the prophets) from the face of the universe could be an affront to the gods in and of itself. It reminds me a bit of the early Catholic Church and their political philandering circa Charlemagne.
The seed pod theory also brings up (and for the Halo universe actually solves) the age old debate of Creationism vs. Darwinism. If the Forerunner detonated Installation 04 and wiped sentient life from the galaxy, and subsequently did in fact send out 'seed pods' with the elements for rekindling sentience within the galaxy, wouldn't both views be true? If we evolved for millions of years only to be wiped out and then reset as we were, wouldn?t we be victims of both Evolution and Creation? We would have evolved and then been recreated. It makes for an interesting compromise. Too bad the story of Halo isn't true... I'd love to see the look on the Religious Right's collective face after that kind of theory had been proven publicly.
So many questions, so little time...
