I agree with you Brandon. Speaking only for myself, during the beta test I had major performance issues - running WinXP I had many BSOD's. However, I had a mid-range PC then and I wasn't sure if it was to the fault of my graphics card, processor or connection.

When we played it was either on a Gearbox server or a Bungie server, I live in New Jersey and I thought most of the lag was because I lived so far away. I know major concern of mine was not being able to see your own ping and I thought when the game was going to come out with that being fixed.

There were alot of other problems besides vehicle warping and stuff like that. I think you are going to have that with any online game with vehicles - I was in the Planetside beta test (haven't played it since) and the vehicles reacted much the same way as Halo's do now. Halo actually seems much smoother in regaurds to getting in and out of vehicles than it was earlier on. I think we have set an ideal with Halo on the Xbox and it's hard to make something as solid as that game was, and trying to make it fit all systems and configurations is even harder.

I think people also thought, "ooh it was on Xbox so it SHOULD be running fine on my PC." ...I won't lie, I thought that. Look at Deus Ex 2, I picked that game up last week for the Xbox and I'm blown away at how that game looks and runs after playing the PC demo. If it was better Aliased it would be stunning. The Xbox has a lot of power for a console, I think the next generation consoles will be much more practical* and powerful for gamers.

*practical as in cutting edge graphics for $300 vs. price of a new computer.

I bought a new computer for Halo PC:
Intel Pentium 4 at 3.0C GHz with HT. (FSB800)
Corsair 1GB DDR400 PC3200 XMS Memory
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB version.
Sound Blaster Audigy Card
160 Gig HD - SATA/150

When I run the Halo PC timedemo at 1024X768, everything at max settings, I get 50 FPS.

All information is from Tom's Hardware. All the numbers quoted were from ATI 9800 Pro 128 mb cards.

The retail version of Doom is going to be capped at 60 fps so it doesn't truly matter - but I'm just compairing things.

Early Doom III benchmarks:

System: Intel Pentium 4 3.06 GHz, 2 x 256 MB, PC 1066 RAMBUS, ATI Catalyst v3.2

1024 X 768 High Quality - 61.4 Fps

Early Half Life 2 benchmarks:

System: Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processors (FSB800), equipped with 1Gb of RAM. 3.7 ATI Drivers.

1024 X 768 - 76.9, 42.7, 65.4 fps (3 demos)

Halo benchmarks:

System: Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz (FSB800), 2x 256 MB Kingston HyperX DDR400
CL2 / 6-2-2-2, Ati 3.8 Drivers

1024 X 768 - 55.5 fps.

I've heard Halo's graphics being called dated in reviews, I've always thought the design and graphics were stellar - but do they compair to the newer games such as Doom? I don't think so. I understand they are early benchmarks, but even so. it's sad that Halo runs at 55.5 fps on a 3.2 P4. Things should have been better.
