This is probably a dead end. Though web animations are often .gif files, gifs are more often found as non-animated images that use little color gradation. Jpgs, on the other hand, are used for images with more complex color gradations. Also, in an earlier post someone mentioned that they checked the file itself for hidden information (isn't that called steganography?). I think the image itself holds all the information we'll need.
