: I was browsing a collection of custom System 7 folders someone had designed.
: One of the icons under "Games" was called "Marathon,"
: and looked like a stylized tennis racket carved out of a circle.
: And so, until learning better, I assumed that this was a sports simulation
: involving very lengthy tennis matches.
: What's your story?
The only kid in the village whose family owned a Mac at the time got the Marathon 2 demo from some magazine or something. We played it day and night all summer, until he got the full game. Then we played the full game day and night until my family replaced the Mac Plus with a Performa. Then I borrowed the game from him and played it day and night forever.
(Technically that was piracy, but in that particular time and place, people still played Nintendo, and lending out cartridges back and forth between all the kids in the village was common practice, we never stopped to consider the fact that unlike with a video game cartridge, an infinite amount of people can play a single copy of a computer game at the same time. =P Obviously, later in life when I was the crazy Bungie fanatic you now know me as, I bought the game for myself. Thrice...)
