On a serious note, has anyone considered the companies that produce white-lead/pewter figurines for various RPGs (D&D, WarHammer, etc.)? I'd think Ral Partha (if they're still in the game)and other such entities would be a much more cost effective option.
Although, the hand painting would be done by the consumer, not the producer, adding the cost of both time and money (not to mention storage and work space) to our end of the equation. That works for me, but I understand it wouldn't be everyone's cup of sewage/lava/plasma.
