If you look at the original sprite for the pistol weapon-pickup. You'll see there are two finger guards. One guard houses the trigger, the second one which is in front of the first one has nothing in it...that curved tab coming out of the bottom is a finger grip I'm assuming. I didn't draw these while I was looking at the images themselves, but I thought it looked good. :D
