: Speaking of which, I really dislike teaser rooms. I just don't see the point
: I suppose. I think I recall a teaser like on Honk was in Veni Vidi
: Cursavi.
: I think that's another why I enjoyed the Tycho plank so much. The levels just
: flowed so well. Even on There's No Place Like Up, once you got the jumping
: right, you'd hit a good rhythm. There wasn't any aimless meandering but at
: the same time you got rewarded for doing a little exploring. I did run
: into problems on Carpe *mumble mumble Latin* but once I played my cards
: right I didn't have so much problems. I too had problems with enforcers
: and their damned homing cannons, but the trick is to get get the drop on
: them fast instead of trying to get at them from afar, like with the
: maserBobs. Attack of the Wheenies might also be chided for its save
: term/recharger placement, but to be fair it's a 2x charger, and halfway
: through the level you won't need to worry about combat anymore. :)
I never found the Tycho Plank; I got frustrated. I mean, I've played Rubicon several times, but I guess I just get fed up when I still don't know my way around level X after four or five playthroughs. It's very irritating, too.
Something that occured to me just now, in a combination of complaining about Rubicon and talking about fun vs. art: all of the new monsters in Rubicon suck, always sucked, still suck now. I really don't know where Chris got such a huge boner for deadly suicide monsters hidden around corners that invariably get the drop on you, but it pisses me off and totally missed the target on a good level. For example: Lookers.
WHY IN THE NAME OF BLUE FUCKING HELL DID CHRIS BRING BACK LOOKERS? Great. We're on the Pfhor homeworld, and so Lookers and Wasps probably deserve ample representation, because they are Pfhor to some extent. But they're not fun! Ever! Getting surrounded by Lookers on Hex Level 73 and invariably losing a bar and a half on a level with only two 2x cans is not a fun way to lose -- it's just annoying. I hate having to stare at the ground. I hate it. It's not fun. At least Simulacrums aren't almost completely invisible unless you're looking at the floor.
Grr. They could have been safely left out.
