In Response To: Eternal Volunteers: BabylonVII (blake37)

The biggest complaint I have with this level is also the lack of direction - the player literally has no idea what they need to do other that what "Lela" told them on the last level, and who can remember what the heck she told us to do after the battle we just came through? I put Lele'a name in quotes more because of something we'll learn on the next level but, suffice it to say that it's not at all clear who really sent you that message. In any case, we're to head to a waste disposal facility (ala Septic Exodus in Evil) and use that facility's waste transporter to escape. We're supposed to smash a bunch of wires so that Lela can reboot the system and change the transport coordinates. After a bunch of running around and fighting, followed by a lot of cliff-hopping, we eventually come to that grey sludge that blake just couldn't stand. I think Forrest's choice of colors was deliberate here - he wanted this place to seem bleak. The only place to go is to jump in, continue fighting and make your way inside the central structure, where the hulks and Pfhor are fighting it out.

Inside we find 4 sets of circuts, each with 3 circuits that must be destroyed. Strange that the teleporters could work at all after doing this, but who knows. Each set of circuits is arranded on a central column in its own pod. A staircase leads to a control corridor above each pod - watch out for the troopers, and in addition to the 3 switches to expose the circuits, there is an extra goodie in each - a pattern buffer, a 3X shield recharger, an O2 recharger and that do-nothing terminal that blake referred to. You might want to look on the map to remember which is which. There is no need to waste your ammo to take out the circuits - you can just reach them with your fists but, be warned, they close back up after you destroy each one. This can make it difficult to remember which ones you have already destroyed. I therefore recommend that you open access to all of the circuits first, then go back and destroy them.

I had a hell of a time figuring out how I was supposed to leave the level. The one and only terminal didn't work. Going back out into the sludge (this is a waste transporter, after all) didn't work, either. It was only after I managed to just stand in the center to try to think what I could try next that I was transported out. Forrest, here's a suggestion. Have sludge entering that central area from the outside in a steady flow. Have the floor under the sludge give off a pulsating glow, and have there be a gurgling noise to give the impression that sludge is continuously being transported out. When each pod's circuits are smashed, sludge from that direction would cease to flow and when all are smashed, the sludge level would drop, leaving that glowing floor exposed. The player could probably then figure it out, and the overall effect would be cool.
