This is just a thought, but the interface between Quicktime and your graphics card may involve OpenGL. There are a series of OpenGL extensions in the Extensions Folder in the System Folder. I'm not sure if Quicktime modifies these in any way, but perhaps you could revert back to the older OpenGL extensions after installing Quicktime 6. Alternatively, you could upgrade your graphics card - the low-end Mac site explains how to do this, and there are a lot of inexpensive "obsolete" cards out there that would probably work.
