Hmm.
Perhaps Bungie's future can make the past clearer. The rocket launcher from the Halo series, the M41B SPNKr comes branded with its designation, along with a useful CAR.R.O.T (CARnage Rule Of Thumb):

Note that Master Chief holds the weapon on his right shoulder, despite the diagram. In his defense, the same labeling isn't printed on the opposite side. And apparently, that green button is supposed to test the rotating barrels, which Chief will do in an idle animation. Aahhh, life in the glorious 26th century. Anyway!
With the name printed clearly across the tube in Halo (which seems to have persisted in the series to present day), maybe the same was almost true for Marathon 2.
So what name could be etched on there?
SPNKR-X17 SSM Launcher? SPNKR-X18? SPNKR–XP? (The manuals have a hard time getting names right, don't they?)
Lazyboy? Explosive Cigar? My Crank Laucher [sic]? SpankDaddyo™? Let's have another look.
