It goes deeper, though. The Infinity SPNKR is a darkened version of the M2 SPNKR, but the player sprite remained unchanged between the two games. (Fun fact: the Hunter also had time to polish his armor and sand the 3D printed shields)

Now look close. The SPNKR on the player sprite's shoulder isn't even the same weapon!

It appears to be based on the weapon sprite from the M2 Preview. The player sprite was the same then as it is now.

But you know what? In first person, that SPNKR also sits on your left shoulder!

What is Bungie hiding from us?!
