: Ah... Bungie's use of time is legendary.

: Macworld August '94.... just waiting for the boxes... two weeks!!!

: A few weeks = 2 months is probably an underestimation.

: Cheers

Sorry for the bump but I happened to read this again recently. Its not too important though.
Here's a refresher.
After the release of Marathon 2 (11/24/95):
From the Myth Strategy Guide: "We started out doing the natural extension of Marathon, which would have turned out to be something along the lines of Quake. At that time, the first screenshots of Quake were already out [8/3/95], and we sort of knew where they were going, and everybody else did too. We were going to try and do one of those sorts of games, and after about two months of working on it, nobody was really into it at all, and I just had the feeling like we weren't going to be able to pull it off in time."
Marathon Scrap Book: "Fans wondered what Bungie would come up with to top Marathon 2. As it happened, Bungie was wondering the same thing. After returning from a triumphant Macworld SF in January of 1996, Bungie’s programmers and artists secreted themselves away in The Lab. Preliminary design was done for what was to be called Marathon 3, but this was abandoned after only a few weeks because everyone felt the urge to step out of the Marathon Universe and try something different. Jason began a brainstorming process which culminated in the development of a tactical wargame code-named Myth."
The Macworld SF was from Jan. 9-12 1996. They worked on Marathon 3 for a few weeks which would be until late Jan. They must have started working on the Quake-like gaming after the release of M2 which would make sense with the two month time frame from the Myth strat guide. Maybe after the Macworld they started calling it Marathon 3, or started doing the preliminary design work on M3. Then they started work on Myth in late Jan. 1996 until the release date of 11/7/97. Interesting to me at least.
