Well, it is clear they're using OpenGL Shader graphics, which enables bloom and bump maps. The bloom gets applied to a number of the textures that contain 'lights', so any room with the white ceiling lights will pour white light over the top of the screen. I honestly don't mind it at all - I think it's a cool feature.

Yeah, that's there on Duality as well. Strangely, Duality actually does have monster spawns, oddly enough!
