I presume you're using the "OpenGL (Classic)" renderer, and have "Z-Buffer" turned on in Advanced preferences. Turn that off, or switch to the Shader renderer -- both should work fine. If that's not the case, let me know.
I thought Z-Buffer was off in the default preferences, but maybe I'm wrong. I quickly notice when I've got that combination on, as a grenade against a wall makes it clear. Of course, we know you never punch walls; perhaps you never shoot them either.
