I wouldn't think you can avoid the MP41 altogether--the MP41 is your best weapon for a good chunk of the game, even if you can stretch the pistol and play very pro-grenade (neither of which I've tried.
There _might_ be enough Walther Ammo to get you to the Cedar Box, but that would require a gung-ho pro-knife style _and_ a pro-exploration style (to stock up on German ammo in guarded out-of-the-way upper levels), and involve some excellent pistol skills--there are packs of three Oozes on Feel The Power (a good use of the Orange Crystal here, though) and quick-moving Wraiths the level below. If time weren't an issue you might be able to stockpile enough P4 ammo to get you to the M79 and then wait in the Big Blue Meanie's lair to make enough HE rounds. Hit-free jaunts can get you through the Labyrinth but pistols-Skitters looks like a roadblock and grenades take some time to load
hmmm, it's an interesting idea, though.
