There's a lot more to it than that. I don't really have the time to ferret out the references right now, but there is strong evidence that Durandal's core technology is based at least in part on Jjaro technology. There is also evidence that the merger was predestined. It is as if Durandal was the key to unlock the potential of Thoth, but it could also be perceived the other way around. Keep in mind that the S'pht'Kr returned regardless of whether or not the merger took place, so the meaning of the merger is much more significant than simply the need to contact S'buth or the S'pht'Kr. Realizing that the ancient Jjaro space station is the key is certainly part of it, but I think that there's much more to it even than that. As convenient as it was for the Rubicon team to simply walk away from the merger, I think that there's a bigger story here. I think that there's an opportunity to tie up this loose end in a very satisfying way.
