In Response To: Fan or Fanboi? (Ross Mills)

: Am I a fan, or a fanboi...

The main factor in fanboisim is the fanatacism. People who blindly swear "This game is absolutely perfect and anyone who doesn't agree is *insert insult here*" is a fanboi. The guy that simply resists trying a game because it's not "his" game is a fanboi. The guy that thinks himself superior because he has a better grasp on the story of the game than someone who's not as familiar with it, is a fanboi. The person that, when he heres a celebrity he doesn't like met with his favorite developer, denies that the whole thing could have ever happened and rages about needlessly is a fanboi. The one who e-mails horrible obscenities to a journalist for what, to the rest of the world, would be a simple mistake, is a fanboi.

A fanboi is someone who simply cannot grasp that a world of options outside of his preferred platform/game exists, and denies vehemently that there is a possibility that something else might be out there that is worthwhile. Fanbois are lifeless people who put the rest of gamers in a bad light with their bad attitudes and rude "holier-than-your-game" behavior.

Fanbois all too often get confused with hardcore fans, perhaps especially in the Bungie community. Miguel, Louis, mnem, CYBR, and Count-Zero are the most hardcore Bungie fans any of you will ever meet. Unlike fanbois, the command serious respect because, aside from being such strong supporters of Bungie and keepers of the Bungie Way, they're not closeminded fools who won't give a game that isn't Bungie-made a chance. They're true gamers, and great people. That's what keeps you from being a fanboi, in my opinion.

: The Worlds Number One Halo Fan. (You may think differently)

Big claim, Ross. I believe that title was given officially to someone else. ;)
