In Response To: Re: Your proverbial ass makes a comforting sound (DoubleMint) Ok, thread title of the week, right here! As said, you can't compare an image in one medium to that done in another. It's like chalk and cheese. Each medium has its pros, and its cons. Personally, "analog art", such as you do, carries more chance of emotion, movement, character, grain. Digital art, such as I do, can look nice and neat, polished and generally KICK-ASS...but, it's harder to convey dynamics in the medium. Because, and I know you shouldn't start a sentence with because, but what the heck, it's the weekend, because...working on computer means you can fuss over lines, fills, create perfect ellipses (I bloody hate ellipses), eliminate mistakes, and so on. For example, I hate ellipses, so drawing cars sucks - WHEELS, 'nuff sed. So, I render mine in 3D Max as models using a cartoon renderer. Perfect ellipses every time. Whee! However, even I will admit, this gives images a certain "clinical" look that I am not happy with. The grass is always greener. So, in reality, there's no reason to feel insecure about your work if you think it looks rough - which is what, I may add, gives it its character - because every medium has its own strengths. All I can say is play with the medium! And, never stop experimenting. Look at Degas' works. There is no point worrying about flat edges, if you sculpt in pie dishes. I don't know what that means. But it sounds character building. d ... Max: "Did you check the car to see if it's okay for a long trip, Sam?" Sam: "Well, the wheels are still on...and here's the ignition key...everything checks out!"
