Maya is great, but it's hardly the ONLY program that turns out good models. Being competent with whatever software you're using is much more important than the program itself.

I've seen plenty of crap come from Maya users, and some amazing work done with small, freeware programs. It all comes down to who's using it, and what they're capable of.

I've been using Lightwave for years, and I used to run 5.5 on an OLD 166MHz Cyrix system with very few problems. Maya requires some serious horsepower to run properly, or at all.
