And that is why I read all the posts before I post. This is exactly how I do it as well, with the added point that the concusion grenade seems to work better for me, as you can toss it under the warthog easier. If it doesn't work right, I just aim the rocket launcher at the ground, pull the trigger, and try again.

I have also tried throwing a plasma grenade behind the Warthog before I jump in it to get a boost at the start, but I can't seem to get the timing right.

Another tip would be to not take every little tunnel that you come across. For example, I find that I make slightly better time if I avoid the tunnel at the top of the first hill (in the first room you come to) and just stay at ground level. Of course, it doesn't really seem to matter, as I can't get anywhere near the best time, but it sure is fun trying. I sure hope that when it is over some of the folks that do well will share some of their strategies.
