No, I'm not a beta tester. I'm just a cross-breed Marathon Trilogy and GoldenEye007 fan... I think that's the best answer to "why" that I can give you...

It took a while (well over 48 hours total gameplay), legendary is really hard. I have two levels left to beat on heroic :)
