That trigger is land based also, so if you fly a Banshee over to the Wraith and have someone else trigger it (somewhere near where the Cov dropship lands), you can blast the driver. He'll come running from where the Hunters are, in the canyon leading out of that area.
I tried reaching him on SP in a ghost, and it is certainly possible to drive up and snipe him.
