In Response To: Video Editing Advice - How Do You Pros Do It? (Parias)

: Heh, my apologies if this has been asked a few times before, but I did a
: brief search and didn't find anything concrete. Anyways, during a recent
: XBox rental, me and a buddy did some co-op action (naturally) and decided
: to record a few pieces of our exploits on The Maw and AotCR. Alone these
: movies aren't really post-worthy (plus a smite big, even DivX has the
: average one around 30 megs, but I'm working on the compression problem),
: but I'd like to collate pieces of them all into a single music video, that
: will, hopefully, be at least mildly entertaining to watch :)

: Anyways, I'm just curious, does anyone have any advice on what kind of video
: editing software I should use? VirtualDub can handle the music integration
: into the final product, and I could probably do the splitting up and
: integration of the various scenes through Windows Movie Maker, but there
: are some advanced functions that I haven't been able to access, such as
: text overlays or fade-outs. Any ideas on what decent video software would
: allow this? Preferably something free.. I haven't checked into Quicktime's
: editing package for that reason :)

: Thanks!

If you use windows, this is what i suggest... i made a movie once of halo, it was called "halo montage" and all i used was windows movie maker and microsoft paint. You can catch that at my site, and all be it that movie isn't that great it's not that bad considering what I used. I later bought Adobe Premiere for an arm and a leg because i really enjoy doing this stuff. No doubt Adobe is the best, ask anyone they'll tell you the same. It's about 550 dollars but it's worth it. I have a friend who tapes and edits weddings and he uses adobe premiere and he makes 1500 a wedding. He only workes 3 days a week (that's the life). So definalty go with adobe, if you go to my site, theirs a link to that site on the main paige. Check it out, they have a free 30 day trail that is almost identical to the retail version. (i know this is a halo site but check out the MOH *medal of honor* video, it's pretty good. I cut scenes of saving private ryan into it... it's good but a 32 mb download) Hope I helped. Later man.
