That's not exactly accurate.

People felt the need to defend Twitter and their use of it when all you said was:
"Still enjoying not caring what people have for lunch."
That's not quite "I don't have a use for it."

I wouldn't even say it's large portion. As RC said, depends who you follow.

It's worth pointing out that not everyone uses Twitter via their web browser. That's probably the worst way to use it.

If you use the smartphone/tablet app or a desktop client like TweetDeck, you will get little notifications in the lower right of your screen when new updates are made (one of the reasons I keep my follow list small).
By following @X360A and now @hbotweets, I'm unobtrusively aware of most pieces of Xbox 360 news as it breaks.

Quite a few times I've been playing a game online with friends and a notification pops up on my laptop of some new interesting gaming info which then becomes a topic of conversation in the lobby.

It's absolutely fine that you don't want to use it, but given that it can be a very useful tool for many as an interactive RSS feed.
Writing it off in such a way was always very likely to provoke a reaction and it did.
