In Response To: it's/its, my ancient nemesis. *NM* (Beckx) Use it like you would 'his' or 'hers' (it is a singular possessive pronoun). If you could exchange his for its, leave out the apostrophe. If you could exchange "it is" for it's, use the apostrophe. *Note that by exchange, I don't mean the sentence would be truthful, only that it would "compile". For example, "The store and its occupants" -> "The store and his occupants" is obviously a strange sentence, but it's grammatically correct. "The store and it is occupants" is obviously incorrect. **OK, it's not that simple.
