In Response To: Re: Forward unto Dawn episode 2 - out now (RC Master) : Pretty simple to me: the fault is always with the developer. They created the : world, the maps, the rules - they're responsible for seeing that they're : not breakable. : You can still frown on people that exploit things, but you shouldn't be
Oh sure, I didn't say which was right or not, just that that's where the debate lies depending on who considers what a 'win'. :) On one side, a 'win' within the official defined rules / game mechanics (the 'respectable' win), and on the other, using any tactic to gain an advantage, even if it means circumventing the intended method of playing (generally depicted as the morality/ethic-breaking win in stories, and more successful at coming out on top). In video games, I think it depends on what you do with your knowledge of bugs and holes in the mechanics. As per your comment, if you use it solely for personal advantage, rather than a "hey, fix this!" discovery, you end up on the underside of the ethics line :P Just like Good hackers vs Bad hackers. To many, hacker itself has negative connotations, but Good hackers use that knowledge to help creators improve their products, rather than taking advantage of it for their own benefit (or anarchy of the system in general, essentially)
