Why decades apart? the Remember Reach stuff was about when the Covenant found Reach which was 2552. (Or did you mean when the Covenant were first around?) Forward Unto Dawn is not a decade later right? It's a few years at best I thought. Granted, I haven't been keeping up with much Halo 4 stuff yet.
