That means it works with the : continuity! If it doesn't, I call that a mistake or purposeful deviation : of accepted truths, breaking into 'sub-canon' and blah blah blah. The thing about a retcon is it means certain things that came before aren't canon as written, so they have to be rewritten, officially changed by the retcon, or disregarded; if one of those things was something you (the consumer) liked, you've lost something, but even if it isn't, it's an admission of sloppy writing, or at least an admission someone (or a group of people since it hopefully at least had an editor) Did Not Do the Research-- on something they themselves own, which I think is embarrassing. : I think it's possible to work with canon and not have it affect the quality : of your actual stories or gameplay. If you run into a canon-wall while : writing your story or designing your gameplay, the person just has to : think creatively and rigorously to 'bypass' any constrictions. Basically, : if you know how to BS well (retcon), you can make everybody happy. :) With : A Fistful of Arrows, I ran into issues all the time planning out the : story, and instead of ignoring pre-existing facts, I worked around them, : getting my original ideas across, and working with canon. I BS'd the hell : out of all of you. :D That's fine too. Unfortunately a lot of authors don't seem to get the facts right or get around them like you did. : There's actually 'canon' in all stories. Stories that take place in our own : world have to deal with history and physics. In a realistic story, if the : writer accidentally writes his character to have to jump thirty feet to : escape a cop, he can't just break physics on a whim. That makes me wonder how the Wachowskis really came up with the idea for The Matrix....
