In Response To: Re: Whoa, what's up with Keyes? (TDSpiral) : It's really disappointing because the older McFarlane Toys looked WAY : better than these cheap Hasbro-looking things. Not only did those older : figures have better sculpts, but they had much better paint jobs too. : Sure, these are great for mass-production, but they're not really fun to : look (for collectors like myself) or fun to play with (for kids) because : there are a lot of breakable pieces. : I wish they would do more sculpture-esque figures like the Legendary
While I like the McFarlane Halo toys, and I have a number of them myself, there is definitely some could-definitely-be-fixed weak points like you mentioned. I personally think the problem lies in that they are trying to do a weird middle-ground between their more usual sculptures and a more Hasbro-like toy like you mentioned (playable, simpler). What I would propose, is to divide the line. Make simpler, less detailed, but more articulated and durable action figures at a smaller scale (which would make more vehicles a reality, methinks, and THAT I would love), and then also make larger-scale sculptures that are more detailed and have better paint jobs, without the need to worry about articulation and durability. And I think that would make everybody happy...
