In Response To: Scratch that (Ibeechu) : I just now noticed some darkening in the circle I drew, suggesting it was : actually covering slightly more than the moon in some places. So this time : I measured the moon from top to bottom (about 81 pixels), then made a : circle 81 pixels in diameter whose center was the center of the moon : (although, if the moon is distorted, that's not really it's center, but : it's a sufficient approximation for now) : : So when comparing it to this new circle, it actually does look like the moon
: Conclusion: ugh why did i spend half an hour doing that Is that not the Epsilon Eridani star? It seems to shine too much for moon reflection. Anyhoo, you spent some time with it. I did the same thing working this out in the first place. I wasn't going for hyper-realism as it's a game and not an actual picture. Plus the biggest assumption (the FOV) makes the whole thing meaningless if that assumption's wrong. I was really just curious if there was enough info present to even get a reasonable figure. I was happy with what I got. Even plugged the values into an online calculator and got the same answer so I was happy with the result. Thanks for checking into this with me!
