One of the ultimate tests for : speed runners is in the Single Segment speed run. That's the entire game, : from start to finish. Not only do you have to know all the levels inside : out, you also have to be able to put them altogether, one after the : other.. : Much, much harder than that is doing it without deaths: which is actually : what Cody Miller has offered a bounty for . : I've done several Legendary Single Segment runs over the last few months with : a view to claiming this bounty. Reach on Legendary in 3 hours? Pish, posh; : childs play. Admire my huge ego and immensely dexterous thumbs. : Doing it without deaths? : Bloody hell. : I think the best I've done is 3 deaths. The furthest I've got without dying : was right outside Sword Base's gatehouse on The Package; took a revenant : round to the face as I was attempting to hijack one. That was a bad day. : Anyway, I said to myself that I would have example films in my fileshare by : the end of August and yesterday I just went through the game, not caring : too much about deaths to get the example done. : The result is a set of 9 films from the proper levels in the game. Lone Wolf : is self-explanatory so I didn't bother with a film. I don't know if anyone : here is actually interested in a sort of 'failed attempt' like this, but : the films are there and I thought it would help balance my forum karma : from my thread earlier in the day ;) : Here is the fileset. : So 7 deaths in total, with a total time of 2:23:03 in saved film time. The : actual 'playing time' is less than that, and the time I sat there waiting : for loading screens is slightly longer than that. : Level breakdown: -- Winter Contingency - 11:05 -- Stats - Film : Went smooth. No issues. Didn't take the Falcon since I've been having issue : getting it down recently. Don't know why! : -- ONI: Sword Base - 9:06 -- Stats - Film : Went very, very well. Faster than an old single-level run of mine. : -- Nightfall - 8:52 -- Stats - Film : Yes I know that's slow. You try doing Nightfall off the cuff, on your own, on : Legendary with no deaths when you've come straight off the first two : levels. What I end up doing is fighting out the first set of buildings, : then speed running the rest. : -- Tip of the Spear - 11:22 -- Stats - Film : So Tip of the Spear went pretty terribly: 5 deaths! A Ghost in the back area : to : the first Tyrant AA gun got especially interested in me and kept ripping me : up. I eventually managed to hijack it instead of driving past it and used : that to get to BXR instead. : -- Long Night of Solace - 26:08 -- Stats - Film : I HATE SPACE!!! Jees, nearly died there. Also had a close call in the bridge : of the corvette when the General spotted my out of the corner of his eye : and started shooting. Ran, like, hell. : -- Exodus - 16:50 -- Stats - Film : I was trying to name the film for this: 'August SS Exodus'. But the XBL : filter wouldn't have that since it obviously thought I was trying to sneak : 'sex' into the name. So I had to put the level name at the start! : Other than that it went pretty well. More or less like my single level run : except I went with the Wraith at the Beachhead instead of the mongoose. : Which is why it took slightly longer. : -- New Alexandria - 17:44 -- Stats - Film : I had a really embarrassing death on New Alexandria where I got crushed : by the Hospital doors while trying to get a Banshee inside. It was especially : disappointing since I had just avoided dying from falling from the top of : the Hospital tower while attempting to hijack the first banshee and was : only saved by the Jetpack I had taken from Vyrant. : -- The Package - 22:03 -- Stats - Film : Quite a conservative route outside: making special note of the Focus Rifle : use just before Sword base. Then a reasonably aggressive Wraith method for : the Glacier. : -- The Pillar of Autumn - 19:53 -- Stats - Film : The final of 7 deaths was here, where I thought I was gonna be smart : and kill a Phantom to give me a bit more time before the final shot at the : cruiser, but I couldn't jump back out quick enough. Stupid. Shouldn't have : bothered. Other than that I did exactly like my 15:53 except for a less : aggressive route with the Zealots. : My Rocket Launcher seemed to despawn on the landing pad so I had to use the : last clip of sniper rifle I had to clear the chieftain on the final wave: : managed to snipe him through the back of the head ;) : Let me know if you have any suggestions!
