This may be completely unhelpful and unrelated but the first time I reached that part of the level I got stuck inside a small elevator type room - as in, I walked into the room, the door shut behind me and I was stuck inside.

It's immediately after you pick up the jetpack, after you cross the destroyed area with the banshees. If you keep right as you cross you enter a building, walk up some stairs to your left and then engage the covenant from the landing at the top as they come down more steps to the left. The elevator room is just there to the right.

Probably nothing, but I'd forgotten about it til now as I never go that way anymore (usually fly over to the left and perch on the tower thing). I guess it could do something in co-op?
