What's just as cool is the giant wall you can see against the waterside edge of the map. If you follow the Halo ring down along the waterside edge, you can see that the multiplayer level pretty much exists at one edge of the Halo ring. The tower in your pic, along with the other towers in the distance are part of the mechanism designed to keep Halo's atmosphere over the ring's habitable surface. This map is the first time really being near the edge of the ring. Pretty cool all around in my mind!
