Most of the Longswords you actually see flying around are scaled down, with the exception of the Halo 1 version.
The only full sized examples are in Halo 1 and the crashed one you'll find on the ground in Halo 3, on the Ark. But the one you see flying past on fire is actually much smaller than its wreckage.
The one crashed on Tempest is also scaled down, to the extent that when you look at the cockpit, there is no way even a regular person could stand up in it, let alone a Spartan.
