I love the Halo games on the whole and overall think the level of quality is better than most, if not all other games I've played. I'm a bona fide Halo nut. This line has bugged me since the game was new and I've googled it and found that many people with less high-falutin' ways of explaining themselves have found the line confusing, as opposed to intriguing or evocative of some depth of character. I think some people want the dialogue to be deep and meaningful, and therefore come up with explanations that give too much credit to the writers. I can sympathize, as I have done exactly the same thing here defending the writing in Reach. As fans we have this impulse to believe it's better than it really is. Our love for the games can distort our judgment.
