You can totally enjoy playing a previous Bungie game! Bungie games are awesome. The gameplay rocks. The story itself was somewhat disappointing compared to what we got in H1 and H2.
I don't know if I could personally put Master Chief in the top five, let alone the top ten on a list like this. It's all subjective, but if we're talking "all time" then I just don't see it. Maybe of the decade, sure (and he'd still have to compete with Mario, too).
