Yeah, I agree it's the subtle things like those that make these comics seem so authentic, much more so than most of the "official" content. The art in the official comics can be as good as art can be, but they often lack that sense of being grounded in the fiction. I think it's largely due to the fact nearly all of the artists drawing the official comics aren't really invested in the universe or its visuals the way the fans are. They just do what they're told and get paid for it. They can replicate certain assets from reference images, but they have no idea how the items in question work or what their real place in the fiction is. Some artists do it better than others, but I think none of them have quite nailed it in the way this comic has.
