I think the : characters there shone and made such a big difference that it highlights : what boring cardboard cutouts Noble Team were. It really bugged me that : Buck only had the tiny cameo he did; I was expecting him to be central to : at least one mission. His was an intriguing personality (more than a : little Malcolm Reynolds there) and his anguished remarks about it being : like Reach all over again at the end of ODST remain unexplored and : untapped. Missed opportunity. This. So much. : Really that sums up how I feel about Reach. The canon and their own previous : works alluded to so much and yet it feels like we barely got to scrape the : surface. Somebody else will undoubtedly pick up the baton, but probably : without Bungie's nuanced, subtle touch. In this case though, it was too : subtle. Was it subtlety? It seemed like inattentiveness. Four years ago I was raising my concerns about the Halo franchise changing hands, but the poor handling of Reach has got me questioning Bungie's ability to handle it themselves...
