I think it IS "THE" Ed Fries - or it's an Ed Fries who's exactly the same age. (There's a Seattle PI article written in January 2004 that lists him as 39. His profile on atariage lists his birthday as May 1964 - which would have made him 39 in January 2004. This page says he got his start programming games for the Atari 800. Sure seems to all fit together...)
