Thanks! (Thanks for all the positive coments too of course!) Glad to here you think so.

The effectiveness of the effect is, sadly, its work-intensive simplicity. It is literally an unlucky photoshopper manually rotoscoping (outlining it by hand, frame by frame) a scarab from 'The Storm' before pasting/colour correcting it into a photoshop composite (these days we'd combine this with After Effects and masking). At some point soon I'll try and post some illustrative examples of some of the crazier effects.

I think we spent a good hour trying to get the scarab to walk at the camera without firing whilst also having a good, consistent blue sky behind it so the rotoscopper (ist?) could use the magic wand tool to select the background. Sometimes however it was just a case of manually erasing the sky/ground around it.

That's what happens when someone suggests, 'Hey, wouldn't it be neat if we have Scarabs instead of Imperial Walkers!?'
