It depends on whether you're talking game chronology or game design chronology. The Halo 3 HEVs which were the same design as the Halo 2 versions are chronologically in use AFTER the events of ODST. Waypoint all but established there are 2 versions and that's fine. I'll look through ODST game data and see if the filename says HEV for the drop pod model. The Longsword didn't change much beyond graphics on the outer hull that I have looked at. The external hatches are still in the same place, the viewport structure looks similar.
