Re: He is the demons!

: I think there's some confusion on the topic here. The point is that any
: attempt to account for those things is an implicit admission that they
: need to be accounted for - in other words, that game mechanics have some
: weight in your idea of canon.

I thought I was the one who was making a point, lol.
The only area for confusion might be peoples definitions of what gameplay-only mechanics or choices actually are.

The lunge would be an example of this. There is no apparent ground for explaining it at all, so it is ignored.

Most of these are decisions related to gameplay (albeit some are less obvious ones, also the point), though how many are gameplay-only, well, I'm interested to see where Stephen will make definitions there.
Some of them it is pretty easy and straight forward to try and put logic behind them, and so may not be considered strictly gameplay-only.
Some may in fact have a grounding in canon despite the reasoning behind them being down to gameplay.
Its a fuzzy line, not entirely sure where its being drawn between different people.

: To be fair, ONI coverup theories have some grounding in canon, going by this
: post .

I know ;)
True as it might be, I still find it a bit of a disappointing fall-back option. I don't want to see that overused.

: Is that something in Legends or Evolutions? If so, the question still stands
: for the preceding 8 years.

Yeah, that's in Legends.
Don't know what you mean about the "preceding 8 years" though.
What matters is events of the in-universe chronology, not ours.
The Babysitter takes place prior to 2552, and if a Spartan II can throw around a SOEIV pod back in Mk IV armour, then while the tank flipping still looks exaggerated and overly easy/effortless in the games, its not so impossible to imagine a Spartan II having a pretty good effort at righting one.

No chance for an ODST of course.
