: Anyone who's doing fan stuff in an ongoing continuity is running the risk : that official canon is going to add or reveal something that'll : "invalidate" their fanfic. I don't see any point in getting : angry if it does. If a book, game, comic or Legends ep comes along and : states that The Arbiter got married to Dr. Halsey or something, I'm not : going to go back and change all my fanfic to suit the latest canon : events...I'm just going to call my stuff "alternate universe" : and carry on as before. : "It Conflicts With My Fanfic" is the second-worst reason ever to : hate something (with the worst being "I didn't read/watch/try it but : it sounds stupid.") All quite true, though I know some are quite willing to revise their works when new info becomes available. I don't believe that particular issue was really raised here, was it? Or just making a general announcement about it? Just wondered if you're actually referring to anyone in-particular. Personally I find the best fanfic, when I do indulge in it (very seldom), focuses on events far removed from the main story and avoids using main characters too. Self-contained original stories in an established universe with plenty of wiggle room. As it happens, most of what we see in the Dual meshes in quite well with some of the depictions imagined in the stories of the two artist/writers I've highlighted.
