: I wouldn't try to reconcile a gameplay-only mechanic with the way the : Halo-universe works. There's enough in the novels to suggest they can't : breathe without their tanks or within their environments aboard ship. Well I was only joking. Not so sure about what you're saying though, I'll be very surprised if you haven't actually tried to reconcile certain, less obvious gameplay mechanics before.
