We didn't always know how to read and write, ya know. An oral history was a lot like a song -- you had to get the lyrics exactly right or else you would be immediately corrected. And they didn't have a lot else to do that would distract them, like we have today. : Are we talking genetic memory? No. We are definitely NOT talking genetic memory. : Did they have written records? Did they pass down architectural drawings on : animal skins? where are the Japanese temples painted on cave walls from : 100,000 years ago? No, they would just remember things. Like how you might remember how your dad built houses. Or how your best friend's famous uncle built houses. You just remember. There may have been records in the form of drawings or something, maybe. But even if there weren't, they wouldn't be necessary. : How could the Sanghelli or Human civilizations lose knowledge of the Array : events if they had writing and architecture soon after they got back to : their home worlds? Perhaps they were forbidden from passing that information down. Or perhaps it took the form of a societal belief that was later deemed a myth by skeptical folks who didn't see any evidence that it had ever actually happened, because it had happened so long ago. Who said they had writing? I'm not saying that they definitely did have writing. Your dad might have shown you how to tie your shoes. And you probably tie your shoes the way your dad taught you. Same thing with architecture, there's just more to remember. : We don't know how similar the Haloverse Earth is to ours but I've always : worked on the assumption that it is identical unless there is a story : reason for a difference. I have a suspicion that the Earth and the other planets inhabited by the sentient races might have actually been destroyed in the Halo Firing Event and that they had to be rebuilt, but made to look like they were not manmade (hence why we didn't find the Ark Portal on Earth). That's just a hypothesis, though, I'm not saying that that's definitely how it happened. : And if we had Japanese style cultures soon after reseeding then I would have : expected us to develop space travel only a few thousand years later at the : most. lol. Well, maybe. But have you ever seen "Cast Away" with Tom Hanks? He would have been hard-pressed to build something like a TV from the coconut trees he had nearby. These people would have had to start again from SCRATCH. Again, this is all just a hypothesis.
