: SPOILERS: Ok, the episode was alright, there were quite a few things that I
: did not like but I'm the type of person who's willing to overlook them to
: still get some enjoyment.
: And well the episode was an interesting insight into the Elites culture.
: However; (THIS IS ALL MY OPINION)
: Mandibles;
: I couldn't tell if some Elites simply didn't hand Mandibles, and merely had a
: lower jaw? Or whether they kept their top two mandibles locked against the
: top of their mouth and the bottom two locked together to create the
: impression of a lower jaw, which seems to be the case with the Arbiter who
: throughout the episode I thought didn't have Mandibles until the end where
: he lets out one last cry.
: As well the female elite/s didn't have mandibles? I know it's a small
: characteristic but Mandibles are a primary way we identify Elites. And if
: Male Elites had them why wouldn't females? it'd be like if female humans
: had mandibles and males didn't, it seems like too much of a biological
: difference.
: Hunters;
: Massive. I know that being made out of worms and such they could technically
: be any size or shape, but to me I don't believe that is the reason why the
: creators made them so big, rather merely an excuse.
: The battle;
: Seemed really unrealistic to me, 100+ Covenant soldiers couldn't take down a
: single Elite? Then again perhaps at more primitive times the Covenant /
: their weapons weren't as dangerous and they weren't such formidable foes.
: Slice n' Dice;
: Ok so at the beginning of the episode we see the Arbiter plunge his sword
: into an Elite, however during the 'battle' he slashes sideways against
: many Elites, yet none of them get cut in half, I understand that this may
: have been due to a 'PG 13+' rating, but realisticly speaking the bodies
: should have been cut in half.
: The Animation;
: I was rather disappointed in the animation, it seemed very stiff, very
: unnatural. I can understand that this is likely due to the limited budget
: and time, but excuses/reasons tend to ruin experiences for me.
: The final duel;
: Okay so when it came to the final scene I was expecting something impressive,
: heck the episode was named after the duel, the whole episode had been
: leading up to it, and well, it was over in one swing. =(
: As well what seemed like several litres of blood gushed out of the Arbiter,
: maybe could have toned that down a bit?
: Japanese influence;
: Seemed a bit too much to me.
: Now all of this didn't prevent me from enjoying the episode, but a lot of
: this stuff really ruined part of the experience for me. It was good to see
: a Brute though. Still, it's a nice job 343 / The company that made it.
The female Elite does have mandibles, but doesn't expose them. That came down to IG wanting to have her be a sympathetic character, rather than monstrous-looking. I suppose it's the visual equivalent of Germans in war movies speaking English with a German accent, if that makes sense. That said, there are plenty of Earth species where the female bears almost no physical relation to the male.
